Low Pressure Over Bay of Bengal to Bring Heavy Rains Across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the next week due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The weather system, coupled with the active southwest monsoon, is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to several districts in both Telugu-speaking states.

Although the southwest monsoon entered the region more than two weeks ago, many parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have experienced below-normal rainfall so far. Weather officials now expect the developing low-pressure system to improve rainfall activity, bringing much-needed showers for the ongoing Kharif cropping season.

Farmers have welcomed the forecast, expressing hope that the anticipated rains will provide adequate soil moisture for sowing and support agricultural activities across the region.

Heavy Rain Forecast for Andhra Pradesh

According to the Amaravati Meteorological Centre, rainfall is expected to continue across Andhra Pradesh until July 8 under the influence of the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in Coastal Andhra, North Coastal Andhra, and Rayalaseema.

The IMD has also warned of strong winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h in several areas. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated locations. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms.

Telangana Also Likely to Receive Heavy Rain

The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has issued a similar forecast for Telangana, stating that the combination of the low-pressure system and active southwest monsoon conditions is likely to enhance rainfall activity across the state.

Heavy rainfall is expected in districts including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mancherial, and Adilabad, while several eastern and northern districts may experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The weather department has also forecast rainfall in Hyderabad, where moderate to heavy showers are likely over the coming days.

Government Issues Preparedness Measures

In view of the weather forecast, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and various government departments have been placed on alert. The Telangana government has directed officials from the GHMC, Revenue Department, Electricity Department, and Disaster Management authorities to work in close coordination to address any rain-related emergencies.

Authorities have been instructed to monitor low-lying areas, ensure quick response teams are available, and maintain uninterrupted civic services if heavy rainfall occurs.

Public Advisory

The IMD has urged residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain. People have also been advised to stay away from trees, electric poles, and other vulnerable structures during lightning activity.

Officials said weather conditions may change depending on the movement and intensity of the low-pressure system. Citizens are advised to follow the latest weather updates and official advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department and local authorities.

With favorable monsoon conditions expected to strengthen over the coming days, the rainfall is likely to provide much-needed relief to farmers and improve water availability across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

BJP's New Strategy: Win Hyderabad First, Then Target the Assembly

Hyderabad: With the aim of strengthening its presence in Telangana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its organizational efforts under the guidance of the central leadership. The party is treating the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections as a crucial political battle, believing that establishing a strong base in Hyderabad will pave the way for success in the next Telangana Assembly elections. As part of this strategy, BJP National President Nitin Nabin is scheduled to visit Telangana for a three-day tour. During his visit, Nitin Nabin will hold a special meeting with GHMC booth-level committee leaders this evening. He is expected to provide guidance on key aspects of election management, booth-level organization, campaign strategy, and candidate selection. Party leaders will also review the shortcomings observed in recent local elections and discuss measures to strengthen the BJP's grassroots network ahead of the upcoming polls. The BJP's immediate objective is to secure victories in the three municipal corporations. The party has already decided to contest the elections independently, without entering into any alliance. Nitin Nabin is expected to advise state leaders to establish a dedicated selection committee to identify strong candidates and ensure that the party fields capable contenders in every division. In addition, the BJP leadership is likely to emphasize the importance of voter list verification, new voter enrollment, booth-level management, and continuous engagement with voters. The party believes that a strong performance in the GHMC elections will significantly enhance its political influence in Telangana and strengthen its prospects of achieving success in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
